READ: Classic Rock Magazine “Slimephone Surveillance” Review

Who would have thought this little garage punk band would get a glowing review in a major publication with Ozzy on the cover? UK publication Classic Rock Magazine reviewed Greg Wheeler and the Poly Mall Cops’ new album “Slimephone Surveillance” in their most recent issue’s “sleaze round up.”

“Are you ready for slime rock? Greg and his weirdo friends pour on the ooze with this brief-but-beefy collection of bad-time rockers. I’ve spent time in their hometown of Des Moines, Iowa, and within three hours I thought I would die of sheer boredom, so I get the angst, the itch and the fist-throwing aggression of this record. It’s laced with fuzzy, lacerating guitars, and vocals that sound like a cartoon villain screaming through a bullhorn. It’s like The Mummies with the Butthole Surfers’ penchant for improvisational fuck-arounds. Or The Briefs overdosing on testosterone. Or The Misfits recording demos over the (slime) phone. You get it, right? It’s maximum rock’n’roll recorded so far in the red the mixer probably burst into flames. While the whole thing is a total jammer, the big hit has gotta be Slimephone (You Can’t Hide From Me), a blast of manic rage’n’roll that rides on a tough Black Flag-y riff that sounds like it could literally strangle you. My absolute fave thing for at least the next 10 minutes.”
